"I made $1000 after 3 months of starting my career", "I have worked with 6 companies in just two months" and the achievements go on and on and on.
While I remain mostly unfazed by these posts, certain moments come where I lose guard of my thought gates and these intruders- mostly comprised of thoughts I would rather not think about- barge my mind with questions and worries of all sorts. One recurring question among these thoughts is "Will Design pay off?".
I guess this might be something that happens with me alone but seeing that you're reading this makes me wonder if I'm not alone after all (side eye ;0 ). Well, I don't judge but let's go a bit further into this.
As humans, our mind, if not kept in check, explores different scenarios concerning our current predicament in a bid to advice us on whether we are on the right path or not. Depending on what we have exposed our minds to, these advices may be negative or positive and the question on whether design will pay off or not could stem from fear of failure, wasted time, or being left behind which might lurk in the shadows, fueling our uncertainty.
One way by which I answer this question is to do that which is in my capacity to make sure that design pays off. I am deciding to take responsibility for my choice to venture into the world of design. While I can't control external factors trying to exert their pressures on my mind, I can build my mind to survive these pressures and make a headway.
The question remains, "Will design pay off for me?" I respond by taking action, recognizing that success isn't solely measured by material gains, but rather by the transformation I undergo in the process. My growth and development as a designer hold the key to lasting fulfilment.
Will design pay off for you? Decide for yourself by taking action!
